2026 Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVCO): OHV Training Workshops

Thanks to funding from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife OHV Grant program and outstanding partnerships with local clubs and land managers, COHVCO will be holding multiple workshops to educate and benefit the State’s off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, land managers, and other OHV stakeholders. These trainings will be focused on developing next steps for the plans for the future of OHV recreation in Colorado.

NOHVCC/COHVCO Great Trails Training

Cost: Free

When: May 15-16, 2026

Where: Penrose Commons Area outside Canon City

This two-day training will consist of two hands-on field sessions. This event focuses on trail layout and designs to minimize maintenance and provide high quality opportunities. 

Field sessions will be held at the Penrose Commons Recreation Site, managed by the Royal Gorge Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management.  Participants will be required to provide their own transportation to the field sessions.  OHV are not necessary as most of the site is s short walk from existing trails with $x4 access. 

Registration is available here 2026 Great Trails Training - Penrose, Colorado - May 15-16, 2026. Lodging options are available in Canon City. Limited on-site camping also available. COHVCO Park Development Workshop: North Sand Hills, CO

Cost: $90

When: June 15-16, 2026

Where: Walden, CO

COHVCO has the unique opportunity to highlight development of a State Park for OHV users in Colorado.  This will be held in Walden and North Sand Hills, CO June 15&16, 2026.  The first day will be at the Wattenburg Center focused on new resources and efforts that have gotten us to this point. Second day will be on site to allow for meaningful engagement from attendees. 

More information including registration 2026 Colorado Annual OHV Training Workshop - June 14-15, 2026 - North Sand Hills, Colorado. Lunch will be provided to participants on both days  A welcome reception will be held the day prior to the training. The last day of the training will be a field training day at a nearby riding area. Participants will need to provide their own OHV and safety gear including boots, helmets, gloves, goggles, long sleeved shirts, and long pants. If you require a seat in an OHV with a fellow participant, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Scholarships will be available for a limited number of participants that will cover registration and lodging. To apply for a scholarship to cover lodging please contact scott.jones46@yahoo.com
